History

There were about 30 Ahmadis living in Calgary when, in December of 1976, the first prayer centre was established in an apartment complex at 1122-12 AVE SW.

In December of 1977, t he prayer center was relocated to an apartment building at 1725- 17 ST SW. The Community was officially established and organized in May of 1977. The monthly Community meetings were held at local member house which was at 140 Queen Alexandra Way SE.

In March of 1978 , a two room office space was rented on 444-42 AVE SW and was used as the daily & Friday prayer center. The Community monthly meetings were now also held at this venue.

In October of 1978, the Community purchased & renovated a house, which was located at 439-12 AVE SE. This house was used as the official mission house and prayer center throughout two periods from 1978-1982 and then from 1984-1988.

In 1980, the Community purchased a house on 40 acres of land in Okotoks, Alberta and used the house as Friday prayer center and mission house. This location, however, was at a great distance from the city. The land was sold in 1985.

In 1987 , a member donated 153 acres of land just north of the Calgary city limits. The Community tried to build a mosque at this site. However, the Rockyview Municipality did not grant permission to build a mosque.

In 1988 , the Community purchased a church with two houses at 90 Mission Road SW at the cost of 287000$. The Community used this facility as a mosque and mission house for 18 years. It was sold in 2006.

In 1994 , Hadhrat Khalifa tul Masih IV, His Holiness Mirza Tahir Ahmad visited Calgary. At that occasion, a member donated 8.5 acres of land on HWY 2 in Balzac, Alberta for the purpose of building a Mosque. For six years the Community made numerous efforts to gain permission to build a mosque. However, the municipality rejected every proposal.

In 2001 , the Community purchased 3.86 acres in Northeast Calgary where Baitun Nur Mosque is now being built. Foundation Stone was laid by Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad (a.a.) on June 16, 2005. The construction of the Mosque started on July 28, 2006.
